The Middle East is in a constant state of readiness for war. Jesus told us of a time like this when there would be wars and rumors of war and nations will rise against each other (Matthew 24:6-7). He called it the beginning of the birth pangs. They start slowly and increase in frequency and intensity.
Interesting that the Lord used the birth pangs to teach us; He knew that every generation would understand the metaphor.
And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:7).
Beginning of the sorrows, is what it feels like these days but don't be afraid, it just proves that He is on the throne. Matthew 24:13 gives us this assurance: "But he who endures to the end shall be saved."
